The author presents five assumptions referred to as: the Pillars of Education:
1) an environment that is safe and conducive to learning;
2) a qualified teacher/facilitator, who is more humanitarian than disciplinarian;
3) a teachable and willing student;
4) a teachable and willing student, who is not cognitively impaired;
5) the awakening or instillation of "the Moral Compass."
This site focuses primarily on restoring the prefrontal cortex and the temporal lobes impaired from substance abuse, silent trauma, or head trauma; and the instillation of the Moral Compass.
The circadian rhythm and the importance of sleep, requiring darkness and serotonin in order to synthesize melatonin and its role of inducing REM sleep appears to be the cornerstone for sound mental health. This is a primary area of focus, especially, as it applies to education.
